Our services assist you and your family/caretaker in dealing with the emotional and psychological consequences of diabetes and helps in the prevention of complications.
Educational Outreach

Presentations (oral/video) - on general medical information on Living with Diabetes, Caring for Diabetes & Preventing Diabetes.

Nutrition Courses – assist participants in developing dietary charts/measures in order to eat healthier.

Exercise Courses – assist overweight participants in developing moderate exercise regimens under the guidance of a LDA staff to help them achieve a healthy weight.

Diabetic Exams - glucose tests to identify diabetes and help set goals for better control of blood glucose levels, as well as blood pressure and cholesterol levels

Public Servers Announcements to increase the awareness and support Living with Diabetes, Caring for Diabetes and Preventing Diabetes.

 

Program Services

Diabetes doesn't just affect the victims; it affects the families who care for them. Once you are diagnosis with diabetes, it is important to share this information with your family, friends and people you love. You should not be ashamed of having diabetes. You will need the assistance of everyone who loves you. Latinos are notorious for foods high in grease, sugar and starch and this is why you need your family and friend's help so not to tempt you with tortillas and pan dulce and assist in giving you glucagon (a treatment for low blood glucose) if you become unconscious from a severe insulin reaction.

When you accept and open to having diabetes, the more you'll relies that you are not lone. The depression of having diabetes should not stop you from having an active life. Diabetes can be overwhelming at first, but this feeling is not wrong; LDA services can help in dealing with those emotions. Service such as:

Peer SupportGroups Group dialogues with other participants who are experiencing similar situations and hardships addressing some of the fundamental negative attitudes and behaviors that prevent individuals from leading productive lives.

IntensiveCase Management Assist participants recognize the strength of existing support networks and guiding through a process of self-assessment.

SupportServices Addresses the urgent needs of participants (i.e. transportation, child care, food, shelter, etc.) in order to eliminate barriers to program participation.

PLEASE NOTE: Peer Support Groups and Intensive Case Managment depends on availability of participants and funding.
