Long-Term Complications
People with diabetes are vulnerable to foot problems. Neuropathy - damage to the nerves which supply
sensation
to the feet. Vascular disease - the narrowing of blood vessels which supply oxygen and nourishment to the feet and foot deformities - deformities of the foot can alter the normal pressure distribution. Infections may result when one or more of these conditions are present and may lead to
amputation

YourFeet
Feet at risk of problems due to neuropathy, vascular disease or deformity may suffer TRAUMA . Trauma in a foot leads to a more serious problem. Trauma may result from going barefoot or wearing the wrong size shoe. Extreme cold and heat can damage the feet. Nerves in our feet warn us of pain and if your nerves are not working properly, foot problems may occur. Some extremes are cold weather, hot bath water (always test the temperature with your hand first), warming feet in front of a heater, or walking on the hot asphalt.
